Def Jam Records says that Kanye West will not be dropping any music on March 20.
Earlier this week MTV ran a story saying that they received a suspicious package containing a VHS tape and whited-out credit card with the number “772223688” on it. The card also had Kanye West‘s name in the bottom-left corner, and led them to a website, leading them to believe that West would be dropping some new music on March 20.
But now Def Jam Records is claiming that the package had nothing to do with them or West.
After thoroughly investigating its contents, the MTV staff concluded perhaps Yeezy was dropping a surprise NASA-themed project on Monday (March 20), however, after contacting Def Jam, a spokesperson quickly shut down those rumors and MTV has since deleted the article.
“That sounds really weird and suspiciously like a hoax,” a Def Jam spokesperson wrote to MTV. In a later email, the same rep clarified it was indeed a hoax and has nothing to do with West’s team.
Kanye West has reportedly been in the studio working on the follow-up to his The Life Of Pablo album.
